About Me

Hello there! My name is Angelique Lopez, I am currently a freshman at the University of Texas at El Paso pursuing Mathematics with a minor in Secondary Education. This semester as a requirement I took English 1312, and the goal of the whole class was to pick a topic to basically become a professional on and be able to communicate our topic in different forms of communications; for example Genre Analysis, Literature Review, OpEd, an Advocating Video, and as well as this Website. Throughout this class we were able to choose between three different topics which were Human Rights, Going Green, and Poverty. I had chose the main topic of Poverty due to a personal reason dealing with my local Paster from our Parish deciding to leave our Parish and leaving to Siera Leon, Africa to help those that are dealing with a great deal of Poverty. With the help of our Parish making donations on a regular basis and the help of himself we have generally saved many childrens lives and as well as raised enough money to build a school. Being that our Parish has helped so much and our Paster giving up so much to help others, it inspired me to find out more about what exactly is going on in Africa and what is being done to help those in need. Through much research I have learned so much! I've learned that the "landlocked" countries in Africa is one of the main reasons for Poverty, and because of Poverty there is malnutrition, diseases, and deaths. I've also learned that 70% of Africa is dealing with Poverty, which is just way to much of Africa's population. In connection to the information that I've learned, I've also come across the organization of food4africa that in a great deal helps areas in Africa.
I would have to say learning about Poverty in Africa has helped me relate to my other classses in a form of  in general being thankful for the classes that I'm able to take. For children in Africa, school is something they do not think about. One thing food4africa stated in a video is children care about getting cleaned and having a clean appearance to get the attention of people that could help them with food or diseases they might have. Having to look at innocent children fighting for what they want in life has made me want to help them fight and help organizations that help Africa. Like many organizations say I want to help "Make Poverty History".
